Curt Piar has produced and co-produced many recording projects. The role of a producer can be an ambiguous thing, and is sometimes hard to describe. Also, the role of a producer often changes from one project to another. Generally speaking, Curt feels the role of a producer is similar to the role of the director of a film, to oversee the performances, help to choose the best takes, make sure the sounds are "right", listening to make sure the parts "fit" together, making sure the arrangement is "working", helping the artist come up with parts...but keep in mind making and recording music is an art form therefore is very subjective! What one person thinks is an arrangement that is "working", another may think is a mess !! Curts approach to producing is comparatively "non-intrusive", which means his goal is to help the artist achieve their musical vision, not to put his "stamp" on the project and make it sound like a "Curt Piar Production".
Before Curt decides to produce or co-produce a project, many conversations must take place between Curt and the artist to make sure that they are compatible. This is true with any artist/producer relationship. If you're a solo artist and would like to make a fully produced (full band)recording, Curt has the resources (knows plenty of professional musicians) to make this happen. If you're a band and want a VERY discriminating ear to help you get the best out of your performances, Curt can help you. Curts "no ego" approach allows him to be involved as little (co-producer) or as much (producer) as you prefer.
Contact Curt if you'd like to talk to him about producing your recording project!
Meet Curt
The Musician, The Engineer, The Producer
The Engineer
Curt has been recording full time for over 15 years, and had been doing it "part time" for at least an additional 5 years. He knows that recording engineering is a never ending learning process, and is not afraid to try just about anything available to him to achieve what the artist/band might be looking for. Since Curt is a musician first he is very sensitive to the musicians perspective of recording.
His approach is more musical and intuitive as opposed to technical. He doesn't get caught up in the "technology of recording" but instead concentrates on capturing the essence of the song, the performance, and the music. However, just listen to something recorded by Curt and you'll hear that he knows how to get the best out of the technology available at Proving Ground Studio.
The Musician
Curt Piar has been playing music for over 25 years, and has played on countless recordings and too many live shows to remember. Although he considers himself to be "just a guitar player", he is also proficient on bass guitar, percussion, backing vocals, and is not afraid to attempt pretty much anything musical.
Curt is available for hire to play on your session if you need him. For instance if you're a solo artist and want some professional accompaniment on your recording Curt may be able to "fill out" your sound. If this sounds like something that you may need, contact us and we'll fill you in on the details!
